2004 Chrysler Crossfire Review

Mercedes underneath, high style above.
(Find Used in Your Area)

By Phil Berg

Overview

Chrysler's all-new 2004 Crossfire is a two-seat coupe that combines American design with German engineering. Look underneath the Crossfire and you'll find a lot of Mercedes parts, including the V6 engine, multilink suspension, and steering setup.

Not surprisingly, it runs like a Mercedes. No Mercedes looks as stylish as the Crossfire, however. Chrysler says the Crossfire is not a red-blooded sports car and is intended to be more of a boulevard cruiser, but we think it's somewhere in between. The Mercedes engine isn't up to the output of that of the BMW Z4 roadster or Nissan Z or Infiniti G35 coupe. But the Crossfire's rear tires are bigger than those seen on some race cars, and its performance is thrilling because the car is acceptably light at just 3060 pounds.

The Crossfire originally appeared as a show car at the 2001 Detroit auto show, and Chrysler decided enough folks liked the design then. We think it's still fun to look at even after its conversion to a real production car. It is being built at the Karmann factory in Germany, which is the same place the Mercedes SLK and CLK are built, at a rate of nearly 20,000 per year worldwide.

Model Lineup

Just one model of the Chrysler Crossfire is available with a choice of six-speed manual ($34,495) or five-speed automatic with AutoStick ($35,570).

Crossfire comes loaded with just about every amenity that you might want except heated seats and a tilt steering wheel.

It is a great sports car, I love it. All the controls and switches are just where they need to be! The interior design, and exterior are excellent too! I love the sound of the engine and how it shifts easily from one speed to the next.

Absolutly awesome car to drive. I took it for a test drive and it was everything I thought. This car is the real deal. Check it out before you buy anything else. As an improvement I would like a little more lumbar support in the seats, though they are very supportive while driving. :)

The Chrysler Crossfire is in fact one hot ride. This car is a blast to drive. But most importantly, it is comfortable, well built and fun to drive. Body Style, Seats, Quality Feel, Gauges, Power Curve and almost everyother things are just right. Buy the car!

This car is an absolute joy to drive. Cornering, and handeling are excellent. I would recomend this car to anyone looking for a fun ride. It is a driving enthusiasts car. Definitely go with the manual transmission. Phenomenal value for the money.
