2000 Hyundai Accent Review

Low prices and good equipment make this a value story.

By Bob Plunkett

Overview

Korea's largest automaker Hyundai concocts a bargain deal with its subcompact economy car, Accent, offering some of the lowest price points in the new car market.

With revamped models, Hyundai delivers a larger Accent for 2000 rigged with more interior room and more features plus refinements for its structure and powertrain.

Yet pricing for all versions has been confined to the level of last year's smaller Accent. And they're protected with the best warranty in the business. In effect, Hyundai found a way to build a far better car than the former Accent but market it for less bucks.

Model Lineup

Accent comes in three-door hatchback and four-door sedan body styles. The same four-cylinder engine powers all models.

The base Accent L hatchback at $8,999 scores with one of the lowest prices on the market this year. The hatchback is also available as an up level GS version pegged at $9,599.

The sole sedan -- Accent GL -- starts at $9,699.

This is the absolute WORST vehicle (for the 2000 model, anyway) I have had nothing but problems since the first day i got it home!! First, when i drove it home, the rear wheel made a weird noise. I took it back to dealer, and they replaced what they call a "wheel hub" at no charge, i was happy Then about a year later i need brakes, i thought it was my driving lol but 6 months later i needed brakes again and again i think i replaced them at least 7 times, and if u drive on busy highway, FORGET IT!!!! cars will slam into u (u cannot pass at a decent speed) I had this car for 8 years now...and i just happenned to look at recalls, there are like 5! And i was never notified of any of them. Also there is no oil leak, but i have to check it at least 3 times a week, it just burns. And if u stop at red light, better turn heat off, cause you'll be delierious from the fumes from whatever stink is coming through the vents from the engine. Ohhh..did i mention when u have to fill the oil 3 times a week, the hood comes off hinges..(u can actually say to ure friend "here hold this!) When u call Hyundai corp. they say "U signed a binding agreement" And yeah i did, but for a car that works! They make me sick i will not take a hyundai if they gave it to me.
