Summary
The Hyundai Elantra is more enjoyable to drive than many of the name-brand cars in its class and there's little about it that feels cheap. In the workaday grind the Elantra is better than acceptable. It's good, and it can run with comparably equipped competitors in nearly every respect except the size of the monthly payments. There, it comes out ahead. Hyundai has made big gains in reliability and build quality, and any concerns in that regard are eased by a comprehensive warranty and roadside assistance plan. Elantra is the bargain of the class.New Car Test Drive correspondent J.P. Vettraino is based in the Detroit area.

| | I've had my new 2005 Elantra for 6 months now and haven't had any problem with it so far. It handles beautifully! The gas mileage is unbelieveable! Wonderful car, we're very happy. If you are looking for a sporty, economy car, this is it! | | posted by Chris Long on Oct 04 2006 | | |

| | This is by far the best vehicle I have ever owned. The drive is smooth and the steering wheel is very easy to handle. There is a lot of trunk space and there is more back seat room than I would have expected for an economy car. I am so pleased with my purchase. | | posted by Edward on Jan 05 2007 | | |

| | An excellent vehicle. Has a very comfortable interior, with lots of leg room. The fuel economy, while not stellar, is acceptable. In my humble opinion, there is no car in this price range that even comes close. | | posted by Carl on Jun 01 2008 | | |
