2005 Kia Amanti Review

Big-car luxury at affordable prices.
(Find Used in Your Area)

By Tom Lankard

Overview

The Kia Amanti is a big car. Buyers are often surprised by its roominess and level of comfort. Launched as an all-new nameplate for 2004, the Amanti is Kia's first big luxury car. It's about the size of the 2005 Toyota Avalon or Chrysler 300 and is considered a large car by the federal government.

The Amanti is roomy and comfortable. The front seats offer comparable roominess to the new Toyota and Chrysler models as well as the new Ford Five Hundred, and rear-seat roominess isn't far off the mark. In fit and finish, the Amanti is the best yet from South Korea. It's smooth and quiet out on the road and comes with a V6 engine that delivers adequate performance. The Amanti is priced below the Toyota and Chrysler, even when equipped with the optional electronic stability control, leather and other luxury features.

Model Lineup

Kia Amanti comes with a 200-horsepower, 3.5-liter V6 and a five-speed automatic transmission with a Sportmatic semi-manual feature.

Amanti comes as one model. Cloth upholstery is standard along with an eight-way power-adjustable driver's seat, power windows and mirrors and dual-zone climate control.

Safety features include dual advanced frontal airbags and antilock brakes. The optional ESP Package ($500) includes an electronic stability program, traction control and Brake Assist, all of which can help the driver maintain control and avoid an accident.

An optional Leather Package ($2,200) includes leather seating surfaces, two-person memory for the driver's seat and outside mirrors, heated front seats, auto-dimming inside mirror, HomeLink programmable garage door opener, a dash-mounted trip computer monitor and a premium stereo with six-disc in-dash CD changer. The power sunroof is available ($900) when ordered with the Leather Package.

This vehicle was more then I expected for this price. The ride is great. The exterior is a eye catcher. I would suggest to modernize the engine and improve the gas mileage. But overall I am glad that I purchased this vehicle.

The car rides like a dream. The sound system is incredible and the interior looks like a car costing at least twice as much. It rides great, is extremely comfortable and has all the features I wanted.
