1999 Toyota Avalon Review
Add your own review or comments

The Toyota that thinks American.
(Find Used in Your Area)

By Mike Knepper

Overview

The Avalon is Toyota's entry in the full-size car market. It competes with the Buick Park Avenue and LeSabre, Pontiac Bonneville and Dodge Intrepid. But it's also designed for people looking to move up from other Toyotas into a car that offers more interior room and a higher level of luxury. The Avalon hits all those marks.

While it competes with the full-size domestic cars, in price and level of luxury the Avalon is pushing into the range of the $31,325 Lexus ES 300, $33,970 BMW 328i and Infiniti I30.

Avalons start at $24,568. Our XLS car started at $28,998, but options brought it to $31,758. The Toyota badge may not offer as much prestige as that of a Lexus or BMW, but the Avalon offers much more interior room than those other cars. In fact, the EPA categorizes the Avalon as a large car.
