Awards and accolades aren’t everything, but they sure make it easy to see what vehicle is a step above the rest. There are plenty of organizations and publications out there giving out automotive awards, and the only real way to tell if a car is really worth its salt is to find a model that has won multiple awards. The following three vehicles have won multiple awards and at least five of those awards are very prestigious. If you’re looking for a vehicle that’s been tested and approved by the pros, these three are excellent choices.
The tenth-generation Honda Civic won a ton of awards in 2016, including the prestigious North American Car of the Year Award. Aside from that, the Civic has won KBB’s Best Buy Award and was one of the 10 Coolest Cars Under $18,000. It achieved a five-star safety rating from the NHTSA, IIHS Top Safety Pick, AutoGuide.com’s Car of the Year Award, and it was nominated or won several other awards, including being a Motor Trend Car of the Year Finalist.
The Civic won all of these awards in 2016 because the tenth-generation redesign was comprehensive. It addressed the pain points of the previous model to make the car better-looking, better to drive, and better to own.
The Lexus RX is one of the best luxury SUVs you can buy. This is clear after looking over the list of awards the model has won. In 2016, the RX was listed as one of Ward’s 10 Best Interiors and as one of Ward’s 10 Bes User Experiences. Additionally, it was an IIHS Top Safety Pick+, named as the top luxury SUV in KBB’s Best Buy Awards, and named as a vehicle with the best resale value by KBB for the luxury mid-size SUV/crossover category.
The RX won all these awards because it truly is one of the best luxury SUVs out there. The variety of the model’s lineup, from the regular RX to the RX F Sport to the RX Hybrid, means that there’s plenty of options to choose from. Lexus has managed to make a vehicle that can be outfitted to suit a wide variety of buyers.
We’d like to have some variety in terms of automakers on this short list, but the Honda HR-V just can’t be overlooked. It won several awards and honors in 2016, including a five-star safety rating from the NHTSA, the Green SUV of the Year award from the Green Car Journal, and named as a Motor Trend SUV of the Year Contender. KBB named it one of the 10 Best SUVs Under $25,000, a Best Family Car, and a 5-Year Cost to Own champion. The vehicle won several additional awards.
The HR-V is an award winning vehicle because it brings the CR-V’s practicality and ease of use to a smaller model. It also utilizes a similar rear seating structure as that of the Honda Fit, which is also a highly awarded model from the automaker. It’s appealing on a variety of levels and thus well rewarded for it.
