I

f you ever find yourself behind the wheel of a powerful sports car at a crowded car show, perhaps you shouldn't do a burnout in front of police, no matter how much the crowd encourages it. Even if you're on private property, it's just not a good idea, as one man learned the hard way.

In this case, a driver leaving a car show in suburban Houston lit his tires up but good, and police pulled him out and slapped the cuffs on him almost as soon as the burnout ended. The crowd turned on the cops, at times chanting cuss words at the fuzz and threatening to tip the squad car, although the crowd didn't appear to come close to rioting, eventually moving on without any incidents.

While we love a good burnout as much as anyone else, and we can understand why a driver proud of his car might want to light 'em up in front of an audience, we also think that smoking the tires while surrounded by a crowd could lead to disaster if the driver's foot slips. So perhaps the cops were justified in this case, although perhaps a warning would've sufficed.

We're all for hooning, but much like drinking, it should only be performed responsibly.
