The 914 was not heralded by the Porsche fan base as a real Porsche. It was a joint venture between the sports car company and Volkswagen and was not very well-received when it hit showroom floors. The press didn’t care much for it, and consumers weren’t wildly thrilled, either. It was supposed to be an entry-level Porsche sports car, but it had too many VW parts, a seriously wimpy engine, and odd styling. Still, there’s something about its weird exterior that’s kind of cool today, and if you don’t need a high powered penile implant, you can just enjoy the car’s sharp handling capabilities and funky styling.

Buying a 914 won’t make you cool like the guys who have 911s, but it is a conversation starter and not a bad little convertible sports car for a sunny Saturday afternoon. The Porsche 914 Targa we found on eBay has very low miles (unverified) and appears to be in excellent condition. While you’ll never get for this car what you would for a 911, a beautifully maintained, low-mileage one is likely to only go up in price. This one seems to be priced reasonably judging by what else is out there right now.
