GM Chevrolet is looking to spark some interest next year with first-time buyers and younger alike when it releases the Spark mini car to US and Canadian markets. The five-door hatch seats four passengers, and is already sale in other markets across the globe. The Spark will be Chevys smallest vehicle to date, and should achieve a competetive MPG rating.

Chevy SparkMeasuring 3 feet longer than the very-mini Smart ForTwo, US markets will see the Spark with a 1.2-liter four-cylinder engine that cranks up 83-horsepower. The Spark will be 14 inches shorter than Chevy's current Sonic mini car, and the Spark will have a manual five-speed transmission. An automatic transmission will also be an option.

Originally, the Spark was debuted as the Chevrolet Beat concept at the 2007 New York Auto Show. Auto Show attendees and online Chevy-ites chose the Beat over two other concepts, and Chevy developed the Beat into a production version for the US and Canada.

"For young, urban dwellers, the 2013 Chevrolet Spark can be their key to the city," said Chris Perry, vice president, global Chevrolet marketing and strategy. "Spark's vibrant exterior and interior colors make a statement, but it is a practical car, too. Affordable, maneuverable and very fuel-efficient, Spark will be easy to own and easy to drive."

Chevy SparkGM has reported that the Spark will achieve more than 40 MPG on the highway. Chevy is looking to produce new models to compete with the compact and fuel efficient vehicles released by Toyota and Honda. Some have reported that the U.S. version of the Spark could achieve 46 MPG on the highway.

The Spark will be released with additional package options, including color touch-screen radio, Chevrolet MyLink infotainment system with Pandora and Stitcher Internet radio, and Bluetooth integration.
