hen Carroll Shelby passed away last month, we figured he'd go to the great junkyard in the sky with dignity. But, alas, it was not to be, as his relatives are squabbling over what to do with his remains.
Cleo states that Carroll's signature was forged and he was in no condition to know what he was signing.
Shelby's body remains in a medical examiner's freezer as his children and his estranged wife, Cleo, argue over who has control over his remains. Cleo claims that even though Shelby filed for divorce in 2010, she was still legally married to him, therefore she has control.
However, his children state that Shelby signed a document turning control of his remains over to his eldest son.
For her part, Cleo states that Carroll's signature was forged and he was in no condition to know what he was signing.
On top of that, Carroll Shelby had filed for an annulment last April. If that annulment is granted—and it can be done posthumously—the children win.
Carroll Shelby was no stranger to lawsuits (such as battles over trademark infringement) while he was alive, so perhaps it's fitting that his remains have caused one more legal battle.
