BMW M3 Concept Coming to Geneva

Bimmer set to raise curtain on the next M3 concept.

What worries us is the rumor that the only transmission available might be a dual-clutch seven-speed automatic.

ccording to AutoWeek, BMW will be bringing the next M3 (platform name: F80) to Geneva in lightly-disguised concept form, with the production version set to bow at the Frankfurt show next fall.

If that schedule holds true, it means the car won't go on sale on American shores until the end of 2013. Coupe, sedan, convertible, and Gran Coupe (think four-door coupe) versions will be available.

The rumor mill is projecting an inline-six engine with 450 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque, although some rumors about a 3.3-liter V-6 based on the larger V-8 continue to carry on.

What worries us is the rumor that the only transmission available might be a dual-clutch seven-speed automatic. An M3 without three proper pedals and a stick? Say it ain't so, BMW. Say it ain't so.

A pro-manual backlash involving the M5 saved the stickshift in that car. Let's hope the same holds true with the next M3.
