Given that the company's Mopar aftermarket truck conversion kit has been selling well, it's possible a truck version will get the green light.

T

he idea of a Jeep Wrangler pickup truck has intrigued Jeep fans for some time now, and Jeep president Mike Manley has told an Australian autos site that a decision on whether to build one could come soon.

Manley told Car Advice that with the next Wrangler due in 2015 or 2016, a decision will be forthcoming sooner rather than later. Given that the company's Mopar aftermarket truck conversion kit has been selling well, it's possible a truck version will get the green light.

The tricky bit is this: will a trucked-out Wrangler be as capable off-road as the current SUV? Manley says a two-door would have no trouble, but a four-door version might struggle with break-over angle. This could be a problem, since a four-door version would likely be more popular.

One way around that would be to use a Fiat platform, although Manley would only speak about that using hypotheticals.

We'd love to see a Jeep pickup, and will know about the future of that possibility sooner than later.
