B
ritish Petroleum, the company that brought us the worst environmental disaster in decades, is now peddling faulty gasoline. The company is suspending sales of mid-grade and premium fuel in Indiana and parts of Chicago after some 16,000 customers claimed that their vehicles were damaged after filling up at BP stations.

BP has traced the problem to the alkylation unit at one of their refineries and the company says it has fixed the problem. According to an official BP statement, "gasoline supplied to gas stations in Northwest Indiana, Chicagoland and Milwaukee is back within normal specifications. Testing of this gasoline will continue to ensure quality."
It’s not clear why this problem wasn’t discovered until after the fuel was shipped to stations in the Midwest, but the problem is sure to cost BP millions in payouts and it certainly doesn’t do much for the company’s already tarnished reputation.
Affected motorists are instructed to call BP's customer hot line at 800-333-3991 or email bpconsum@bp.com.
