e're not sure why, but Mazda chose the Moscow Motor Show as the venue for the unveil of its 2014 Mazda 6 mid-size sedan. And based on the photos we've seen, it's a looker.
Mazda needs a hit with this one, the first-generation 6 was well-received for its sporty nature, but the current generation lost some of that verve, despite having a handsome exterior design.
2014 Mazda 6Not surprisingly, the new car stays true to the Takeri concept that the company showed in 2011. We like the look overall, it's a head-turner in a segment that's increasingly being invaded by good-looking cars.
We know that Mazda will be using its Skyactiv technology to enhance fuel economy, although we don't know what engines will head Stateside for sure. In Russia, the car will have a 2.0-liter four-cylinder that makes 148 horsepower and mates to either a six-speed manual transmission or six-speed automatic; and a 2.5-liter four that makes 189 horsepower and mates to the automatic. There will be a diesel of unspecified size and power, as well. It's uncertain if that engine will be sold in America.
The car will also have regenerative braking and a start/stop system to enhance fuel economy further.
We'll bring you full specs along with pricing and fuel-economy numbers as soon Mazda releases them.
