At the Shanghai Auto Show, Mercedes-Benz showed off its new Concept A Sedan, which marks a new design language for the company. The car shares some of its looks with the CLA-Class, but with fewer creases and a sleeker look all around. If this is the future for Mercedes-Benz, we’re excited for what’s to come.
The car features thin headlights a low hood and a large oval-shaped grille and overall coupe-like proportions. Instead of hard creases down the side of the car, you get more sweeping lines and smooth surfaces. Mercedes’ head of design, Gorden Wagener, called this new approach to styling “Sensual Purity.”
“Our Concept A Sedan shows that the time of creases is over,” he says. “Form and body are what remain when creases and lines are reduced to the extreme. It has the potential to introduce a new design era.” If this is the future of car design, we’re thrilled for what’s to come.
