iat is teaming up with Mazda to build an Alfa Romeo roadster, which will share its platform with the next Miata.
The two companies have signed a memorandum of understanding (non-binding) to build the car, which will be a light-weight rear-drive roadster. Even though the car will be built at Mazda's Hiroshima plant, Mazda says that the cars will use different engines and be styled separately.
One note of caution to Alfa fans--there's no word if that car will be sold here (it's a sure bet the Miata will).
The rest of the paperwork gets signed in the second half of this year, with the car hitting assembly lines in 2015.
