Hi Richard,

Sorry it took us so long to get back to you.

Dealers, just like people, come in all packages. There are good ones and there are bad ones. To help folks weed through their options, we offer Consumer Dealer Reviews on our site. You are welcome to go to the Bob Watson dealer page on our site and leave a dealer review so others can benefit from your experience.

Unfortunately, as you are finding out it, is very difficult to get a car loan if you do not have a down payment. There are dealers and lenders that will consider it but we did not see any in your area.

If you really need a car we would recommend looking at your Tax Returns and/or your Economic Stimulus Payment. Many of our customers are using the stimulus check as a down payment for their car loan.

I went to a dealership today after recieving a phone call saying I was approved for a no money down car. As with everyone in this economy I can afford the payment but the dwn payment is an other story. I went to Bob Watson and was treated so badly I cant believe this is how hard working people are treated. My wife and I dont have a great credit score mine is 514 and hers is 440. I went through a divorce 6 years ago and got hit hard. There really seems no way for us to purchase a car and all we need it for is me to go to work and her to run errands and be dependable and safe. We have tried everything and get more depressed at every turn. I want your help and advise.

Hi Jerry,

This is a complicated question to answer because so many things depend on your location, your credit score, and the dealer/car you are interested in.

For the most part dealers do not want us to send them customers outside a reasonable distance from the store. Usually this distance is no more than 60 miles. Shipping a car is not cheap and since most of our customers struggle to come up with a down payment adding even more $ on top of the down payment is just not practical.

Your personal situation might be different and you very well might be able to cover the shipping costs as part of the deal. However, as a public site, our approach has to work for the overwhelming majority of the cases and for now we can't accommodate your request.

We do think that your need is not unique and we will continue to put together the most flexible solutions for our customers.

Regards,

Hi,
I have a few questions. I'm applying for a car loan thru this site. If approved for a certain amount, can i choose a car in that price range thru this site? If so, does it have to be in my state or can i choose one farther away? For example, i live in MN but i find a car that is within my approved amount in CA. Can the car be shipped to me? How will that work? Any information is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I applied for the direct loan option as well (another site) but was not approved. The problem with the direct loans I have seen is that they function as you described, giving the buyer the power to buy whatever car. Lenders can't afford to give that choice range to a high-risk consumer, even if there are stipulations such as mileage, etc. because the lender still is not assured that they are making a wise investment. The reason a buyer can get approved at the dealership is because the sub prime lender knows exactly the car you are wanting approval for and they can have better assurance that if you default, they can still get most of their money back on a repo auction block.
It would be so great if there was a sub-prime lender who would approve/decline a customer based on their credit AND the SPECIFIC VEHICLE (VIN# and all). This would greatly increase the chances of approval for the sub prime buyer and security to the lender. They already provide this at the dealership (Ack!), but as far as I have seen, not directly to the consumer. It seems like it should be very possible and an awesome market opportunity for whoever claims and advertises this new niche first!

Sincerely,

Don

This is a great question Don. We are very close to be able to offer a product like this to our customers. It is very difficult to put together but, our management team and investors have been able to pull in the right lenders to offer what is called a Direct Loan to our customers.

While the Direct Loan product is a great fit for your situation, it is not for everyone. Your credit score of about 600 puts you in a better position than many of our existing customers who fall into to the 500 area. With a score of below 550 very often the only option is to work with a dealer directly.

Here is a quick preview of the Direct Loan product.
You can use your loan at any Franchised Dealership (Dealer who sells New and Used cars).
This product will not work with most Independent Dealers (Dealers that sell only Used Cars).
You can not use the loan to buy a car from a Private Party (you neighbor, friend, etc.)

Direct Loan is a great product for some folks. It allows you to shop for a car ad focus on getting the best car at a best price without worrying about financing.

We will provide more information as it becomes available.

Lending Surprise

I didn't try web2carz specifically, but I did try a similar service yesterday and got referred to a dealer that guaranteed 100% approval. I told them our price range and chose a car from the dealer's site based on that range, printed the price and went to test drive the vehicle. I liked it and knew I could afford it even at a very high interest rate. I also knew it would qualify for sub prime lending because it was a 2006 certified model at a price $1000 lower than the True Market Value (the average selling price of this car in our area).
But big surprise! They tried to tell me that the bank would only loan $28,000 for the $15,000 dollar vehicle! Yes, you heard it right. They would not loan me the internet price for the car. They wanted to charge me ungodly interest rate (understandable) and require a $4100 down payment and $500 a month for 5.5 years for a $15,000 car! I have a 600ish credit score (give or take 25 points) with a unresolved repossession 3 years ago.
It would be great if a person could choose a reasonable car for finance and then find a LENDER, not a dealership, that could accommodate the loan at a high interest rate, but I can only find these sites that send me to a dealership where the sales manager tries to make you feel trapped and take advantage of the credit situation for a 100% profit for them.
Web2carz, do you have a service that will only seek lending institutions and omit dealerships for bad credit lending. I have $3000 for a down payment and am willing to pay high interest and I have a good car chosen to lend on that is way within my budget means by the loan amount calculators ($15,000 2006 certified model with 30k miles and outstanding price).

Any information would be much appreciated!

Thank you,
