If you're past the age of wanting to hit the beaches of Miami for spring break but you still get the week off (aren't you lucky?), you might be at a loss when it comes to planning your vacation. Thankfully there are no shortage of getaway spots.

If it's warm weather you're looking for, fly past Cancun and check out San Juan, Puerto Rico. Rich with historical views and expansive landscapes, you'll get to practice that Spanish you've been forgetting since high school. Puerto Rico also offers a lively nightlife and plenty of great food options, with cuisine from the Caribbean and the U.S. blending with their own local flavor.

If you're still itching for a beach vacation, check out some different ones this year.

Or, how about visiting somewhere in Texas, like San Antonio or Austin? San Antonio is home to the Alamo, which is great if you have kids as you can turn the trip into a learning experience, but it also offers views like the Riverwalk. Austin is quickly becoming an entertainment hub, so if you like music and other cultural events, check this city out.

If you're into big city lights, try on New York City or Las Vegas for size. Both offer plenty of options for things to do, and both are known for their "city that never sleeps" aspect.

If you're dead set on avoiding the sun, check out cities like Portland or Seattle, which we hear are perfectly rainy most of the year.

If it is, in fact, a beach vacation that you're after, skip the South and the West Coast and instead treat yourself to a Hawaiian getaway. Check out the various volcanoes and maybe catch a surf lesson.

No matter what your flavor of vacation is, there's a city out there waiting for you.
