A German luxury car manufacturer operated as a father and son named Maybach. Founded in 1909, the company was originally a subsidiary of Luftschiffbau Zeppelin (they originally made diesel and petrol engines for Zeppelins). During WWII Maybach manufactured engines for medium and heavy tanks for the German war effort. Mercedes eventually took over the company in 1997.
