Mazda Motor Corporation is based in Hiroshima, Japan. The company first worked in machine tool manufacturing but subsequently set its sights on engine construction. In an effort to differentiate itself from other Japanese car makers, Mazda developed the Wankel rotary engine and began rolling out cars in 1960. Mazda partnered up with the Ford Motor Company in the late 1970s and lasted until 2010.
