That figure isn't a typo, she really does want that much in damages.

W

hen Michelle R. Mathis discovered that her car had been impounded while she was in the hospital recovering from injuries suffered in an auto accident, she wasn't too happy. In fact, the Ohio woman was so upset that she sued the Columbus city council.

It all started January 12, when Mathis was in an accident in her 2002 Saturn SC2, which was towed and impounded. When she attempted to retrieve it on February 7, it was gone. She claims no one told her the status of the car.

Judge Elizabeth Preston Deavers recommended that the case be dismissed.

We sympathize with Mathis' anger--it can't be fun to head to the impound lot and find your car gone--but we think $500 billion in damages is a bit unrealistic. OK, maybe more than a bit unrealistic.

Nice try, though.
