-year-old Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Gregg Allman, legendary singer and keyboard player for the Allman Brothers, recently announced his engagement to his 24-year-old girlfriend, Shannon Williams.

Allman recently released his memoirs, entitled My Cross To Bear, in which he details his storied career, as well as his legendary battles with cocaine, heroin, alcohol, and his third wife Cher.

Allman has been married six times, but is not willing to give up on the institution, despite noting in his book, “After about my fifth wife, I realized that maybe I shouldn’t be married.”

Why folks like Allman don’t just give up on marriage is endlessly puzzling. One is tempted to call them hopeless romantics, except for the fact that none of their romances seem to last very long.

But lest anyone think this marriage isn’t one for the ages, Allman told the Associated Press that this time, “I am totally in love.”
