Illinois State Trooper Zach Peters is being hailed for saving a motorist from a burning car. For the second time in three years, Peters is being praised for saving a life after a car accident.
The 12-year veteran encountered a silver Nissan that had hit a barrier on Interstate 294 in suburban Chicago. He saw smoke coming out of the car before finding an unconscious woman pinned sideways in the vehicle.
Due to damage to the driver's door and because the other doors were locked, Peters broke the window of the front passenger's door and pulled her out, with assistance from a passer-by.
The woman was given first aid at the scene before being admitted to a hospital, while Peters was treated and released for smoke inhalation.
This is a reminder that the police are there for more than just speed enforcement.
