ityMaps, a start-up company based in New York, is expanding into Chicago as part of its plan to be in 20 cities by year's end.

CityMaps makes interactive maps that point consumers in the direction of deals created by local businesses, as well as Groupon and Living Social, and also guides users to points of interest.

The company makes its money by licensing its maps to the hospitality, travel, and real-estate industries. Still, though the initial intent was for locals to make use of the service, tourists have been heavy users of the maps, instead.
