Asking a computer to bump the heat up a couple degrees in the winter without getting out from under your Snuggie? That's just one way you could use Ubi.

U
ntil now, most "smart houses" that we've seen have been in the movies. But thanks to this week's featured Kickstarter, Ubi, we can move one step closer to having an almost-sentient house. Ubi plugs into a wall outlet, and similar to Apple's Siri, when you talk to it, it talks back.
The Ubi lets you communicate with your home to control things like the temperature, and can do things like alert you when you have new emails.
It stands for ""ubiquitous computer," and the team behind it plans to ship Ubi with features including: voice-enabled internet search, speakerphone, indicator lights to alert you of email, a home speaker system, a virtual assistant with a feed reader and audio calendar, voice memos, an alarm clock, an intercom system, a baby monitor, a noise pollution monitor, and climate controls similar to thermostats like Nest.
It will also tether to iPhone and Android phones, and you'd be able to control things via the app, as well. Ubi communicates through speech or by using lights. Onboard, it has sensors to monitor temperature, humidity, air pressure, and ambient light, and that data can be stored to trigger alerts to your mobile phone (say, if you forget to turn the air conditioner off when you leave for work and the house stays cold).
It's an interesting way to keep ultra-connected and also bring your home into the equation. Check out this video for more information.
