t’s the one thing that’s kept iPads from becoming the true laptop killers. You can’t open your MS Office docs. Sure, you can use Google Docs, but who really does that? But if the rumor coming out of TheDaily.com is true, MS Office for iPad may be coming very soon, maybe in a matter of weeks.

That means your iPad could soon be doing everything your laptop does, making the need to carry a bulky laptop around even weaker.

This image ran on TheDaily.com, supposedly showing the new MS Office running on an iPad. The Daily was unable to verify the authenticity of the image, however.

And if the next-gen iPad comes with that cool laser-projected virtual keyboard that has been whispered about, it really could become the only portable computer you would need to own.

According to the The Daily, the upcoming MS Office for iPad would be the Metro version, currently in use on the Windows Phone, Xbox 360, and the yet-to-arrive Windows 8.

This would mean that MS Office could be available to iPad users well before an Android version arrives.
