here are two problems with umbrellas. One is that when you fold them up to put them away, all the water still on the umbrella gets everywhere. The second is that in high winds the umbrellas turn inside out, often tearing the fabric away from the ribs. Both of those issues are solved with the ingenious new Outside-in Umbrella, designed by Yanko Design.
When opened, this inverted umbrella looks and acts like an ordinary umbrella, but rather than folding shut with the top (read: wet) part of the umbrella on the outside, it folds with the top on the inside, so all the moisture gets channeled down the center, rather than splashing everywhere.
That solves the wetness problem, but what about the inside out problem? This umbrella will still turn inside out when there’s a strong wind, but since it’s made to close that way, there’s no danger of that causing damage.
The one downside is that it can’t be telescoped the way those mini-umbrellas are, but those aren’t very good umbrellas to begin with, they don’t last very long, and they don’t keep anything below your knees dry at all.
