hen it comes to apps, it can often feel like we're writing about the same ones every week...and when it comes to the App Store charts, sometimes we are, but that's because some of the apps topping the charts are actually earning their keep. Regardless of your opinion though, we're still going to show you every week what the top-downloaded apps are—both paid and free—as well as our favorite apps of the week. Here we go!

paid apps Paid apps.

Paid Apps
This week's top paid apps are dominated by Disney games. First is Where's My Perry, second is Where's My Water, and third is Temple Run: Brave. Fourth place goes to Fieldrunners 2 from Subatomic Studios, and fifth place is MyCalendar Mobile, which was featured here last week. Have you used any of these apps?

Free Apps
This week's free apps have changed up significantly since last week. First up is NBC Olympics Live Extra, which makes sense since the Olympics begin this week. This one allows users to stream Olympic events and receive push notifications for event start times. Second in line is Flick Kick Football (which is actually soccer), which makes sense because as the Summer Olympics rev up, people are naturally going to be more into sports. Third is InstaCollage Pro, an app you can use to slice and dice multiple photos into one fun collage. It's a little like Diptic, if you've used that. Fourth is SongPop Free, which is a trivia game wherein you guess what song is playing based on a few bars of it. Finally, in fifth place, is AutoRap, a goofy app that turns any old voice/sentence into a sweet rap smooth jam. Do you like R.Kelly, T-Pain, and the likes of that? If so, check out this free app for a quick laugh.

Our Favorites
Gas Buddy
With the ever-climbing gas prices this summer, it's helpful to know where the cheapest gallon is near you. This app pulls your location then gives you a list of nearby stations with the most current prices.

transitstop
Transit Stop.

Transit Stop
This one is Chicago-specific, but for those of you who are sick of running down the stairs at the train station only to find the one you wanted to catch has just pulled away, you'll be into this one. Transit Stop lets you browse train and bus lines and tells you the next time one will be arriving. You'll (theoretically) never miss a train or bus again—that is, if the CTA was ever actually on time.

Savage Love
This app is a bit of a guilty pleasure for us. If you're a fan of Dan Savage's usually-a-bit-raunchy advice column, you'll like having access to all of his columns. We don't recommend this for younger kids, though, as roughly 100% of the content is for adult eyes only.
