This week's free apps are almost all brand new, but somehow they still didn't captivate us for very long.

elcome to our weekly app roundup. If you're new here, this is where we run down the list of the most downloaded paid and free apps from the iTunes store, as well as tell you about a couple of our favorites. If you're not new here, well, we can't give you back the time it took to just read that last sentence. Moving along now!

Paid Apps
This week's paid apps reflect, at least a little bit, what's going on in pop culture. In first place is a favorite from last week, Wipeout, but in second place is NFL Kicker 13. This is a game for the football lover–so, if we can make a guess, about 85% of your Facebook friends. In third place is WhatsApp Messenger, and Minecraft is holding strong in fourth. In fifth place is a new one, called Stickman Base Jumper, a game that lets you parachute off buildings.

Free Apps

Free Apps
This week's free apps are almost all new ones. Interestingly, they're...not very exciting, for the most part, though. In first place is YouTube, which is odd since it comes preloaded on the iPad and iPhone, so why is there a separate app all of a sudden? In second place is InstaMessage, a messaging app, and in third is the game Temple Run: Brave. Fourth goes to Gems with Friends from gaming powerhouse Zynga, and in fifth place is SpaceEffect FX, which lets you add filters to photos.

Our Favorites
Find My iPhone
This isn't a new app by any means, but Find My iPhone is a great app if you're either prone to losing your iPhone or live in a high-theft area. All you have to do is install this app on a different iDevice (like your iPad, iTouch, or computer) and when the iPhone goes missing, you just login on the other device and it will locate your phone. It sounds a little tricky, but it's really not.

TouchTunes

When you go into a bar and notice they have one of those new-fangled internet-capable jukeboxes, you'll be glad you have this app. It allows you to choose and play music as well as bump your selection to the top of the playlist without ever having to go up to the bar's jukebox. Pretty convenient, and no one will ever know it was you who chose Notorious BIG's "Hypnotize," although we can't understand why anyone would want to keep that a secret.
