n the history of science and invention, there have been several key moments. The discovery of fire, the invention of the wheel, the printing press, and the internet. But all those pale in comparison to the revolution in ketchup bottle technology that is LiquiGlide.
Engineers at MIT have developed a revolutionary bottle coating, LiquiGlide, that finally allows ketchup to flow easily from the bottle.
This bit of engineering genius came from the Varanasi Research Group, who came in second place at the MIT 100k Competition.
“It’s funny: Everyone is always like, ‘Why bottles? What’s the big deal,’” David Smith, one of the geniuses behind LiquiGlide, told FastCompany. “But then you tell them the market for bottles, just the sauces alone is a $17 billion market. If all those bottles had our coating, we estimate that we could save about one million tons of food from being thrown out every year.”
That’s-a one big tomata!
