ince it's a well-known fact that we remember only a fraction of the dreams we have, plenty has been done to study why that is. Now, various studies are showing that consumption of the vitamin B6 may help with recalling dreams.
Scientists theorize that B6 converts the amino acid tryptophan into serotonin, which wakes up the brain during REM sleep.
Studies like these have been being conducted since 2002, when a study done at the Mayo Clinic found that participants who were given the highest dosage of B6 (250 mg, compared to 100mg and a placebo) remembered more of their dreams.
But how? Scientists theorize that B6 converts the amino acid tryptophan into serotonin, which wakes up the brain during REM sleep and helps the mind enhance and remember what it's seeing.
Despite these new reports, though, B6 shouldn't be taken without precaution—overdoses of vitamin B can cause heart palpitations, cramps, insomnia, high blood pressure, and panic attacks. So while remembering dreams sounds fun, it's important to stay healthy and safe, too.
