In the world of large, body-on-frame SUVs, many people turn immediately to American brands. General Motors and Ford dominate the large SUV market with vehicles like the Ford Expedition or the Chevrolet Suburban. However, that doesn’t mean there aren’t other options out there. If you want a bit of variety or don’t want to shop GM or Ford, you can always turn to Nissan and Infiniti. The Infiniti QX80 takes on luxury barges like the Cadillac Escalade and the Lincoln Navigator and comes out looking pretty good.

But what if you can’t exactly afford the Infiniti QX80’s exorbitant price tag? Well, we’d turn to Nissan, and its large, body-on-frame Armada, which is still very well-appointed and very capable of doing all that the Infiniti QX80 can. Let’s take a closer look at the two of these vehicles to see how they stack up next to each other.

Infiniti updated the QX80 for the 2018 model year, giving it a handsome exterior and an imposing presence. It’s clear that the Infiniti QX80 is a luxury vehicle from the first look. It’s large, elegant, and luxuriant looking. The interior is a suave as the exterior and features beautiful leather and wood trim throughout the cabin. There’s no doubting the high level of luxury in this SUV.

Aside from all that, the QX80 has all the goods to deliver on the SUV front as well. It’s spacious, comfy, and modern. It gives the driver and passengers everything they need to ride in comfort and style. Beneath the hood of this beast sits a burly V8 engine with plenty of power and towing capacity.

2018 Nissan Armada

If you can’t quite stomach the Infiniti’s high price tag but absolutely love the QX80, you don’t have much to worry about because Nissan sells the Armada. The vehicle is very much the same. The Infiniti is a little higher class, but if you can do without the premium badges, you’ll find that the Armada still has a good-looking exterior and well-appointed interior. It’s just a short step down from the QX80, but the plush seats and similar interior and exterior styling will do its best to fool you.

Because the Armada uses much of the same standard equipment, power and towing numbers are similar and space inside the cabin is commensurate as well. The V8 is slightly detuned but you’ll likely not notice due to the fact that it still puts out power with authority.
