2019 was a big year for FCA with the Ram 1500 and HD trucks winning countless awards, and the buzz around the release of the Gladiator, Jeep's first pickup truck in nearly 3 decades. Now the automaker has even more reason to boast after nabbing several top spots at the Automotive Loyalty Awards by IHS Markit. The awards recognize manufacturers and vehicles that lead their segments in customer retention.
How Customer Loyalty is Measured
The customer retention awards are based on an analysis of nearly 17.5 million new vehicle registrations during 2019. Loyalty is determined by IHS Markit when a household that owns a new vehicle returns to market and purchases or leases another new vehicle of the same make, model or manufacturer. FCA had the most vehicles win with three awards including the Ram 1500 and Ram HD, the Chrysler Pacifica, and the Jeep Grand Cherokee.
It's no surprise that the excellent Ram 1500 keeps customers coming back. The Ram 1500 is both tough and refined, offering a complete package of drivability, comfort, space, luxury, and technology. For 2020, the Ram 1500 offers up to 12,750 pounds of towing capability and 2,300 pounds of payload. Engine options include a 3.6-liter eTorque Pentastar V6 rated at 305 horsepower and 269 lb.-ft. of torque, a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 for 260 horsepower and 480 lb.-ft. of torque, a 5.7-liter HEMI V8 for 395 horsepower and 410 lb.-ft. of torque, and a 5.7-liter eTorque HEMI V8 for 395 horsepower and 410 lb.-ft. of torque.
Top trims feature luxurious interiors with materials like fine leather and wood, and best-in-class cabin space in the crew cab models. The back seats fit even tall passengers comfortably and there is no shortage of storage space with twice the interior storage capacity of the competition. The Ram 1500 is also leading the pack in technology with the Uconnect 4C system and a huge 12-inch touchscreen.
Ram Heavy Duty
For those that need more towing or hauling power than the 1500 offers, the Ram 2500 and 3500 get the job done with a 35,100-pound towing capacity and a payload capacity of 7,680 pounds. In addition to the brawn, Ram HD trucks offer comfort and luxury inside, just like their half-ton counterparts. Engine options include a 6.4-liter HEMI V8 for best-in-class gas engine power of 410 horses and 429 lb.-ft. of torque, a 6.7-liter Turbo Diesel for 370 horsepower and 850 lb.-ft. of torque (Ram 2500) and a 6.7-liter Turbo Diesel for 400 horsepower and 1,000 lb.-ft. of torque (Ram 3500).
The Chrysler Pacifica has been the most awarded minivan four years in a row and it adds to this collection with the customer loyalty IHS Markit award. This win is a result of the Pacifica's efficient powertrains options, superior cargo space, and comfort. The Chrysler Pacifica is the first and only minivan with an available hybrid engine that gets 80 miles per gallon equivalent (MPGe) in electric-only mode, has an all-electric range of more than 30 miles, and a total range of more than 500 miles.
The all-new 2021 Pacifica gives families even more reason to purchase again with the addition of AWD, improved handling, Stow ‘n Go seating, and the most standard safety features in the industry. Plus the new Pacifica gets a technology upgrade with a new Uconnect 5 system with a 10.1-inch touchscreen and a rear-seat entertainment system. The Pacifica offers two engine options which include a standard Pentastar V6 engine for 287 horsepower and 262 lb.-ft. of torque, and the only hybrid system in the minivan segment.
Jeep Grand Cherokee
No matter if Jeep Grand Cherokee owners take their vehicles on-road, off-road, or on the track, this model keeps them coming back with a slew of trims that offer capability coupled with premium luxury. Capability starts with four available 4x4 systems, a Quadra-Lift air suspension system and a class-leading Selec-Terrain traction management system. The luxury touch is evident on top trims like the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk with Nappa leather, exotic open-pore wood trim, and unique color offerings.
