We knew the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 was awesome, but we weren’t totally sure just how friggin amazing it was. Recently, Chevrolet announced the ZL1 has a top speed of 198 mph. There was at least one run where the car tipped over the 200 mph mark. According to Chevy, the car made 202.3 mph in one direction at the High Speed Oval at Germany’s Automotive Testing Papenburg GmBh proving ground.

Al Oppenheiser, who is the Camaro chief engineer, seemed pretty pleased with the results. “This test caps an impressive list of performance stats for the Camaro ZL1,” he said. “It’s the most capable – and fastest – Camaro ever.”

Oppenheiser is right. The Camaro ZL1 is pretty amazing, besting its sleeker Corvette brethren in its fastest run. The Corvette Z06 tops out at 198, the ZL1’s average speed at the proving ground.
