Is the 225 horsepower delta between Giulia models justification to bring a new trim level here? We'd love to see that happen, and there's even a rumor that it might make be called the Veloce, slotting between the Giulia Ti and the top-tier Quadrifoglio. The Veloce's purported 350 horsepower should be more than enough firepower to be seriously intimidating to most would-be competitors.

Right now, there's a sizable gap between the 2.0-liter turbo, 280 horsepower Ti and the 2.9-liter twin turbo V6, 505 hp Quadrifoglio. The Veloce would fit quite nicely in there with a tuned version of the 2.0-liter turbo that would likely drive all four wheels. RIght now, the European market already has a trim level called the Giulia Veloce, an upscale version with a standard eight-speed automatic and all-wheel-drive, but no power or handling bumps.

According to Squadra Tuning, there's an entry on Fiat Chrysler's Dutch-market parts site for a 2.0-liter turbo Giulia with 350 horsepower. Someone even found a 2.0-liter, 350-hp engine option on the Mopar Tech Authority website, FCA's OEM service portal, which doesn't directly point to a Veloce for American but drops a seriously big hint. Alfa Romeo says they have no 2018 plans to bring any new trim level to the Giulia, but that doesn't mean it won't show up in 2019. If a more powerful version of the European Veloce makes it here, we might just be the first in line to buy one.
