We were surprised how much we loved both the UX 200 and the UX 250h crossovers when we tested them. They were just the right formula. Relatively affordable, roomy for its size, attractive, fun to drive, and a great interior. Now, the brand has given its least expensive vehicle the Black Line treatment. Lexus just found a way to make the UX 250h look even more like a regular hatchback. The thing is, it's only available on the hybrid trim.
The first thing you notice is the change from black body trim to body-colored trim that gives the UX 250h Black Line Edition a more unified look. It actually looks more like a hot hatch than a crossover now. The uniform look actually makes it appear as if it rides lower than before, but the model hasn't been altered in that regard. There are still plenty of black trim bits including the grille, headlight surrounds, wheels, side mirrors, roof rails.and roof spoiler.
While the Grecian Water blue paint hue looks great, the UX 250h Black Line Edition also comes in two other colors (with the fender trim to match): Caviar (what appears to be a greyish brown) and Eminent White Pearl. The interior trim on the dash, seats, doors, seatbelts, cargo mats, and armrest appear to all get blue coloring, giving the UX 250h Black Line Edition an even sportier appearance.
Lexus also saw fit to give the UX 250 Black Line Edition blue key sleeves, much like the blue-stitched versions found on the GS F. To make things even more attractive, buyer will also get a custom-made set of Zero Halliburton rolling luggage pieces that display Lexus Black Line branding. We've never seen a mainstream automaker provide this kind of swag. Typically, you only see such offerings from the likes of Aston Martin and Ferrari.
The powertrain hasn't changed, much like the rest of the Lexus Black Line models. The UX 250h is powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder combined with an electric motor that powers the front wheels. It's a fun car to drive, and the horsepower figures don't accurately reflect what a great car the UX is. Only 1,000 of the UX 250h Black Line Edition will be made, and sales begin in the spring of 2021.
