The snow has yet to melt here in the midwest, and the first day of spring is two long weeks away, but Jeep has us daydreaming of sun-filled days and beach vacations - it's a bit rude, really. This week, the automaker revealed its new Islander Special Editions for the 2021 Wrangler and Renegade that look like they came straight out of a Jimmy Buffet music video. Maybe that lost shaker of salt is rolling around on the floor in one of these?
The Islander Special Edition isn't entirely new. It originally launched in 1988 on the Jeep Wrangler and has been in hibernation for the last 11 years (hopefully on a beach somewhere). Now, the Wrangler Islander is revived and the Jeep Renegade Islander makes its debut for 2021 with beach-themed accents inside and out.
The 2021 Wrangler Islander is based on the Wrangler Sport S and is available with two or four-doors. It comes standard with Jeep Command-Trac 4x4 part-time, two-speed transfer case, 17-inch Rubicon aluminum wheels in Silver Finish with all-terrain tires, and Rubicon Rock Rails. Infotainment comes in the form of Jeep's Uconnect 4 system with can be accessed through a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Cue the "Margaritaville" Spotify playlist.
The Islander Edition gives the 2021 Wrangler unique beach-inspired exterior touches like a Tiki Bob hood decal and an available white three-piece hardtop. Inside, the SUV sports a Ceramic White mid-bolster and black cloth seats with an embroidered Islander logo and Surf Blue accent stitching. Buyers can choose from colors like Billet Silver, Black, Chief, Granite Crystal, Bright White, Firecracker Red, Hellayella, Sarge Green, Snazzberry and Sting-Gray. Dedicated Parrot Heads should look into adding Mopar's Optional Islander Plus Package which adds front/rear grab handles, cargo tub liner, solid sunbonnet top, and a Tiki Bob soft spare-tire cover.
The smallest and most affordable SUV in Jeep's stable, the 2021 Renegade Islander, rides on 19-inch Silver Alloy wheels with all-season tires and gets a dual-pane panoramic sunroof for a touch of open-air freedom. Like its larger sibling, the Renegade gets a Tiki Bob hood decal and an available Alpine White painted roof. Inside, you'll find premium black cloth seats with an embroidered Islander logo and Surf Blue accent stitching. As for exterior colors, you can choose from Bikini, Jetset Blue, Glacier, and Omaha Orange.
“Our Jeep enthusiasts expect legendary Jeep 4x4 capability, and they also embrace the Jeep brand’s fun ‘go anywhere, do anything’ adventure lifestyle,” said Jim Morrison, Vice President, Jeep Brand North America. “With Surf Blue accent stitching, Islander-embroidered front seats, and available white three-piece hardtop on the Wrangler, you can’t help but think summer and the beach life when you see these new Islander special editions.” (Ok, Jeep is definitely taunting us).
The Jeep Wrangler Islander and Renegade Islander Special Editions are now available at Jeep dealerships. The 2021 Jeep Wrangler Islander starts at $33,370 MSRP for the two-door model and $36,870 for the four-door model. The starting price for the 2021 Jeep Renegade Islander is $27,430. If you're tempted to shut down your computer, run out to buy one of these, and drive it to a secluded beach, we won't judge. It's 5 o'clock somewhere, right?
