Now that the Honda Insight is no more, it's time to usher in a new era for the Civic, which was totally redesigned 2022 model year. Honda just announced its new Civic Hybrid. The last-generation Civic never had a hybrid powertrain. The news is big for the model, and it adds efficiency to an already pretty efficient car that gets an EPA-rated 30 city, 37 highway, and 33 combined for the gas model. The Hybrid version should be significantly better in the efficiency department.

The new 2024 Honda Civic Hybrid will be offered in both sedan and hatchback body styles, meaning across the model line. It competes with the Toyota Corolla Hybrid (but we expect it to be better to drive based on our experience behind the wheel of gas models of both cars). The Civic Hybrid, unlike the Corolla Hybrid, will only be front-wheel drive instead of all-wheel drive. The Civic also is larger inside and has better interior styling and space.

honda civic hybrid profile

Honda stated that the new Civic Hybrid will have two motors like the current hybrid versions of the new CR-V and the new Accord. In the European market, the Civic Hybrid gets a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with the dual electric motor setup driving the front wheels. Output is 181 horsepower and 232 lb-ft. of torque. Power output for the U.S. could be different. In terms of efficiency, the Civic should match or beat the current 40-mpg combined for the CR-V Hybrid, which is great news for the cost-conscious.

honda civic hybrid cabin

In terms of the interior, we don't have any details on the differences between the Hybrid and the gas model, but it should pretty much bet the same minimalist but sporty cabin with the linear dash, base 7" touchscreen (perhaps a larger upgrade?), and standard equipment such as a Tire Pressure Monitoring System, LED DRLs, leather-wrapped steering wheel/shift knob, 8-speaker audio system, a multi-view rear camera, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, fold-down rear seatback, Adaptive Cruise Control, Collision Mitigation Braking, Lane Keeping Assist System, Road Departure Mitigation, and Traffic Jam Assist.

No pricing has been announced yet, but expect it to be about the same increase as the CR-V Hybrid over the gas version, or less than $2k. The Civic Hybrid will go on sale sometime in 2024.
