Well before the official debut of the 2022 Toyota Tundra comes a photo leak of the upcoming new light-duty pickup truck straight from a Toyota dealership. Oops for them, great for the rest of us because it confirms what has been going around the interwebs about Tundra. The official reveal isn't coming until September of 2022, so this is a way early look. First posted by the folks at Tundras.com, the somewhat blurry photos of a dealer presentation shows an off-road focused TRD Pro model, and we like what we see.
Toyota did tease us with a shot of the front a few weeks ago, and it looks like the leaked photos are exactly what the teaser images showed. A big, blocky front end with aggressive, squared-off headlights and a large grille with three LEDs at the top, an LED strip under the Toyota lettering, and LED lights at the bottom corners. The front bumper in the lead image is big and bold, maybe too big? Whatever your opinion, the front end has real presence, which is a big deal for pickups these days. The current Tundra got a bit too rounded for our liking and made it look a little anemic against the likes of Ford, Chevy, and Nissan.
The body gets bulging fenders, which add to the rugged look, as well as black fender trim and black TRD Pro wheels that make it look pretty menacing. There also appear to be rock slider rails for off-roading. Out in back, there's a bold tailgate with big TRD Pro lettering embossed, thin taillights, and black trim at the top of the tailgate and on the bumper.
We have to say that we're pretty pleased with what we see in the leaked images. Will this cause Toyota to move the reveal schedule up? It's doubtful, but we can hope. The Tundra will be unveiled in the fall, and we'll get more details on the powertrain, technology, off-road capabilities, trim levels, and pricing. It's going to be a big deal for Toyota to get back into the light-duty pickup truck game now that it's really late compared to the other brands (even Nissan beat them to the punch with the updated Titan).
