It's hard to believe how much the Ford F-150 line has expanded, one that now includes a high-performance Raptor, an off-road-ready Tremor, a Powerboost hybrid, and the all-electric Lightning trim. Now, there's a new trim level that won't break the bank while still looking seriously tough. It's called the 2023 Ford F-150 Rattler, and it's more than just a name.

The Rattler uses the base XL trim, but it looks anything but base. The Rattler gets special fender vents with the trim's badging, as well as special decals on the back, 18-inch alloy wheels, dual exhaust, Rattler patterned seating and bronze accents. The grille, bumpers, wheels, mirror caps, and window trim are black and add a nice sinister touch to the Rattler. It looks pretty tough, and the aesthetic changes make it look far more special than just the base XL.

The seats might be cloth but those scaled inserts look pretty cool.

But it's not all show with no off-road go. In terms of off-road equipment, the Rattler actually gets a bevy of goods from the FX4 package, including skid plates, beefy all-terrain tires, off-road shocks, a locking rear differential, and hill descent control. This means the Rattler will be able to take on serious off-pavement duties that the base truck can't.

The Rattler will go on sale in the latter part of 2022 as a 2023 trim level. It will come only in four-wheel drive, extended or crew cab configuration, and the 145-inch wheelbase (so the 5.5-foot bed for the crew cab and the 6.5-foot bed for the extended cab). Buyers can choose every engine variant except for the 3.3-liter V6. No pricing has been announced yet, but it will probably cost a little bit more than the F-150 XL with the FX4 off-road package.
